PULLMAN, WASHINGTON, July 27, 2020 – After careful consideration for the health and safety of our men by the housing corporation, advisory team, and undergraduate leadership, the decision has been made to extend the temporary closure of the Beta Theta Pi chapter house at Washington State University for all student housing throughout the Fall 2020 Semester.

Gamma Theta’s brotherhood has successfully weathered many challenges throughout its 100-year history and is prepared to move all chapter activities forward with Beta pride and confidence. The chapter is successfully adjusting to Washington State University’s recent announcement that formal recruitment week will now be completely virtual and is pursuing a virtual recruitment campaign to identify and pledge up to 25 high-quality men who share our five core values and believe in The Men of Principle Initiative.

Gamma Theta will aim to operate as close to normal as possible during the Fall 2020 Semester but in a virtual manner. We are confident in our ability to smoothly make this transition by leveraging the virtual WSUBeta System. This means that Beta’s Member Orientation Program, routine chapter and committee meetings, academic support for all pledges and members, along with ever continuing love and brotherhood development are already in place for the Fall 2020 Semester.

Finally, alumni are prepared for increasing support of the needs of the active chapter and are looking forward to resuming the Centennial Campaign and Gala Celebration efforts for August 2021. We are proud to announce that 140 Alumni donors have already committed $1,480,000, and 861 other brothers will be pursuing another $1,000,000 in commitments to complete the financing of upgrades and expansions of our great chapter house in preparation for the next 100-years of fraternal excellence at Washington State University.

We are looking forward to a time when we can have all of our members back under one roof. Until that time, stay safe, stay healthy, and lean on each other for support. Go Cougs! Go Beta!

About the Gamma Theta Chapter of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity

Beta Theta Pi is a collegiate fraternity committed to developing men of principle for a principled life. Founded in 1839, today Beta serves more than 10,000 undergraduate members on 139 campuses across North America, 137,000 living-alumni members, and 1,800 volunteers.

On January 17, 1920, the Gamma Theta Chapter of Beta Theta Pi was chartered in Pullman, WA. Over the past 100-years, the chapter at WSU has thrived with more than 1,700 initiated members to date and 1,100 living alumni. Gamma Theta is an award-winning organization and its members include athletes, leaders, scholars, and good men, living up to their chapter motto:

GDBA is the legal non-profit entity that owns the physical structure, land and contents of the Gamma Theta Chapter House of Beta Theta Pi, chartered to manage and maintain the facility for current and future undergraduates. Nine Directors and a group of committed alumni have been very busy managing the needed repairs and improvements to our beloved house. Weekly conference calls are held discussing the status of ongoing projects and budget review. Chapter Counselor Jim Pappas ’85 updates Chapter operations and activities.

GDBA operates eight committees; a GDBA Director chairs each committee. Each committee is assigned the duty to recruit others to support the needs of their committee.

On Saturday, January 27, the GDBA board members, Chapter Advisory Team, and the 12 Executive Chapter Officers organized the first-ever Collaborative Tri-Board Meeting on campus to establish common goals and share differing perspectives. It was very successful, and we unanimously agreed these meetings must repeat each year. A sincere commitment was made by all to increase and improve communication between all three groups, and recommendations are already being implemented. The most important takeaway from our six-hour meeting was a mutual understanding of each group’s heartfelt commitment and setting a positive tone for the 2020 centennial celebration.

The next day, GDBA’s annual Member Meeting was held at the chapter; it included eight of the nine Directors and was open to the undergraduates. President Joseph Buchannan ’53 presented the operational structure of GDBA and openly answered questions. Following the Member Meeting, an All-House Meeting was held in the Chapter to introduce 17 new pledges and 83 members, discuss the purpose and outcome of Saturday’s Tri-Board Meeting, and provide details about the centennial celebration in 2020. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the weekend events and their successful outcome.

It is with great pleasure that we announce our new Gamma Theta newsletter, the Gamma Theta Update. The Gamma Delta Building Association, our House Corporation, hopes this newsletter will strengthen our communication efforts by reconnecting alumni of all decades and rekindling the bonds of brotherhood we all fondly share.

We will share news about the Chapter, the House Corporation, and updates from our alumni brothers on a biannual basis. We are also committed to communicating with you through several different platforms. You will receive a physical newsletter in the mail, and a digital version will be circulated via e-mail.

To connect alumni, we are working on updating our alumni records, beginning with the biographical update sent in May. Once a year, will we send out this biographical update that allows alumni to update the information we have on record.

These updates also provide the information for one of the most popular features in the newsletters, the “Alumni News” section. Altogether, the updates are a vital tool in maintaining our records and our ties with one another.

We hope that through the Gamma Theta alumni relations program our fraternal bonds of brotherhood are renewed and strengthened. The Gamma Theta Chapter of Beta Theta Pi is pleased to officially announce the launch of our new website. This project will be rolled out in three primary phases over the course of the next several months. In joint partnership with Gamma Delta Building Association, we have decided to publish the first phase of the site as of Thursday, February 15^th, 2018. This initial phase includes limited functionality and content, but will quickly grow as we work to develop customized features and engaging viewer content.

Our goal is to provide a central hub for Gamma Theta alumni, active members, parents, GDBA and potential new members to all connect. The new website will be interactive and built with the focus of improving communication amongst all of our Gamma Theta affiliates. We have specifically designed this site to be user-friendly and informative, while also closely following the General Fraternity branding standards. Additionally, we’ve made it easy for brothers to connect with each other via the site’s integrated MyBeta Portal.

We hope you find our new website easy to navigate and access information.
